On 08 July 2026, the Lao Credit Guarantee Sole Company Limited (LCGC), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lao PDR organized a training workshop on the topic of “Green Finance” under the Climate Finance Network project. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Wong Keet Loong, Chief Executive Officer of LCGC, and Ms. Raniya Sobir, Economist at UNDP Lao PDR, with more than 30 representatives from LCGC, PFIs, SME Fund, Production Promotion Fund and relevant experts.
The objectives were to raise awareness and build understanding in three key areas:
- Understanding the fundamentals of green finance, the Lao Green Taxonomy, and its implications for classification and reporting of green economic activities.
- The role of the Credit Guarantee Corporation and partner banks in mobilizing green capital for MSMEs.
- Establishing the necessary frameworks and structures for applying green finance mechanisms in practical implementation.
In addition, participants exchanged views on various issues, fostering mutual understanding of the work, and the workshop was successfully concluded on the same day. Participants also learned about the structures and mechanisms required to develop green credit guarantee products to support Laos’ green development policies in the future. This participation reflects LCGC’s commitment to enhancing staff capacity and promoting sustainable finance to support the growth of MSMEs in Lao PDR.
